  • Q: What is a Life Plan Community, and how is it different from a rental community?

A: The primary differences between rental communities and Life Plan Communities (also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities, or CCRCs) are found in what levels of care are offered and how that care is paid for. Independent living rental communities may not include a full continuum of care. In addition, they typically do not include any financial coverage of residents’ future healthcare needs.

Life Plan Communities, on the other hand, offer access to the full continuum of care, ensuring that residents’ care needs are met at every stage should those needs arise. And depending on the contract type, some medical costs may be either partially or fully covered by the monthly fee.

The Ormsby is a Life Plan Community. That means that we provide a maintenance-free lifestyle and independent living accommodations with the added assurance of supportive health services in the future. The Ormsby not only promises you an exceptional lifestyle today but gives you peace of mind for tomorrow.

Here are a few resources to learn about Life Plan versus rental communities:

  • Q: What is the difference between a for-profit and a not-for-profit community, and what will that mean for the residents of The Ormsby?

A: Because we’re a not-for-profit Life Plan Community, The Ormsby can reinvest in our community and staff, benefiting the people who live here.

The Ormsby will be driven by resident satisfaction, not profit margins. We stay true to our commitment to quality of life for residents and peace of mind for their families.

  • Q: What does it cost to live at The Ormsby?

A: Like most Life Plan Communities, residents of The Ormsby pay an upfront, 90% refundable entrance fee, as well as an ongoing monthly fee. Both entrance fee and monthly fee pricing is dependent upon the size of the residence you select when moving in, as well as the number of occupants living there. In most cases, residents will find that the cost associated with living at The Ormsby will be equal to or less than the cost of living independently. Learn more about our pricing.

  • Q: If I place a 10% reservation deposit and become a Charter Member, but then have a change of mind or circumstances prior to The Ormsby opening, is my reservation deposit refundable?

A: Yes, when you place a 10% reservation deposit and become a Charter Member, you not only reserve the residence of your choice and secure valuable Charter Member benefits. You also are guaranteed the peace of mind that, should you wish to cancel your reservation prior to The Ormsby opening, your 10% reservation deposit, which will be held in an escrow account in your name and be gaining interest, will be fully refunded to you.

  • Q: Are there any tax benefits of moving to a Life Plan Community like The Ormsby?

A: Yes, several IRS rulings have established that a portion of a Life Plan Community entrance fee and monthly fees are deductible as prepaid medical expenses. The deduction formula can be quite nuanced and recent tax law changes have had an impact. Therefore, we suggest you discuss your individual tax situation with your personal tax advisor.

  • Q: Why should I consider The Ormsby today versus years from now?

A: Most of us can think of a list of reasons to delay making a move away from the place where we have made a life and a home. And why not? The known is always more comfortable than the unknown; and doing nothing invariably feels far easier than doing something.

The issue with this decision is that by waiting to make a choice like this, most adults will find themselves put in a situation where choices can become limited or we have no choice at all. A difficult situation where an unforeseen change in our health or finances will force a change in our lifestyle—and suddenly, it’s our children or our doctors who are deciding our future for us based on what’s available and affordable at that time. Making a move to a Life Plan Community like The Ormsby helps negate any of those issues from taking control of your life, and instead, puts the power back in your hands.
